Charges for quilting

Edge to Edge Quilting:

The most economical quilting is edge to edge or overall quilting, which gives a finished but not densely quilted appearance. The cost is .015 per square inch. To determine what this type of quilting will cost, you should multiply the width by the length by .015.  For example, a 60 X 72 inch quilt will cost $64.80.

Custom Quilting (using computer guided quilting):

This is a more costly quilting style.  This type is created by placing different patterns on various parts of the quilt. (See the Sampler Quilt for an example of this type of quilting without the stitch in the ditch.) Custom quilting with stitch in the ditch is .05 per square inch.  Without stitch in the ditch, the cost would be .045 per square inch.  To determine the cost associated with custom quilting, multiply width by length by .05 or .045, the price per square inch.  For the example of the 60 X 72 inch quilt, the cost would be $216 and $194.40, respectively.

When you have made the decision for me to quilt for you, please consider the following:

1. Keep quilt top, batting, and backing separate. Do NOT baste or pin them together.

2. The backing and batting need to be a 8″ inches larger than the quilt top.  If it is not obvious what is the top of backing and quilt, then you must indicate to me the top by pinning with a safety pin the top of each.

3. If the backing is pieced, there should not be any selvages on the seams.

4. Your quilt should be free of loose threads and loose seams on the quilt top which could be possibly caught by the quilting foot, causing you quilt to be torn.  Make sure your quilt top is squared up and your  borders are not wavy.  Out of square quilts and those with wavy borders will make it impossible to quilt with good results.

5. Before I begin quilting, I will let you know if there appears to be a problem.  I will send photos to help explain the problem.

6. I normally supply the thread and consult with you about the color, often making recommendations. If you have a thread you want to use, we will have to discuss using it before I commit to quilting your quilt.  Certain threads do not work as well as others on a given quilting machine.  We will discuss the pattern you wish to use for your overall quilting and for a custom quilt.  I will quilt whichever design/s I have in my libraries.  If I have to buy a special pattern/s, there will be charge for purchasing the design which generally run about $15/each.
